What is a multifamily home?

For the GreenPoint Rated system, multifamily homes are defined as:

  • Four or more residential units within a building envelope OR
  • Residential buildings composed of 2+ units that have shared common mechanical systems, master-metered utilities, or common spaces such as lobbies.

Which multifamily system should I use?

There are three pathways available for GreenPoint Rated multifamily projects. Select the option that best applies to your project scenario for more details on how to apply for a green certification.

Existing Home Multifamily Elements is recommended for:

  • A home that have been previously constructed (a good rule of thumb is that it has been occupied for over a year)
  • Projects are not adding any significant new living space
  • Projects have or will have <90% of the interior finishes removed and leaves the original foundation, framing and exterior finish.
